If your shipment is fragile and/or valuable, packaging it for a safe delivery is particularly important, and here are a few pointers:
A comprehensive discussion of packing practices can be found by consulting ISTA 3A packaging standards.
Every shipment, domestic or internationally-bound, requires a shipping label (also called an air waybill). However, foreign destinations can require a lot of documentation depending on the nature of the goods and the country’s rules governing them.
In brief, all shipments require a commercial invoice (CI), which functions as a parcel’s passport – no CI, no entry. The CI identifies the goods to customs agents so that they can assess the correct duties and taxes on them.
Beyond that, a shipment may also require Form B13, Certificate of Origin, ATA Carnet, or Personal Effects form. Secureship’s Learning Centre can help you decipher these forms and guide you as to when they are needed.
Foreign countries apply prohibitions and restrictions to incoming goods and they also levy duties and taxes on them. And while Canada and Australia both belong to the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (CPTPP) that reduces duties, some remain, as does Australian GST on shipments from Canada to Australia.
As a first-world trading nation, Australia is well connected to Canada, and FedEx will happily ferry your parcels there. To assist you connect with FedEx, the Canadian shipping broker – Secureship – can find you cost savings and several delivery options with FedEx, but also with Purolator and UPS.
In addition, Secureship provides a wide range of support and shipping information in the form of articles and blogs, like how to package your goods to ensure a safe arrival, documentation for international parcels, and specific regulatory and tax information for goods entering Australia
