Key Points
On shipments from Canada to France, FedEx, like all carriers, charges more for overnight shipping, larger parcels, and Saturday deliveries. So, while there are ways to manage those expenses, one of the foremost is to let Secureship find you the best deal for your budget, and it could be as much as half off of FedEx’s retail rate. Secureship’s system also has been designed to automatically lead you through the parcel’s necessary paperwork. And that includes the commercial invoice and any others required by the nature of the goods.
And since France is part of the EU, shipping of goods there from Canada is simpler than ever before, and with much lower duties.
Table of Contents
If you choose Secureship to find shipping options, its on-screen estimator would appear as below. And the pricey results may shock you. However, you can see the substantial savings Secureship can find for you on your shipping.
And outlined below are two other FedEx delivery services to France along with three options offered by UPS:
Service | Carrier’s Rate (CAD) | Secureship’s Rate (CAD) | Delivery Time (business days) |
---|---|---|---|
FedEx International Priority | $471 | $165 | 1 |
FedEx International Economy | $427 | $144 | 2 |
UPS Express | $458 | $206 | 4 |
UPS Express Saver | $435 | $196 | 1.5 |
UPS Expedited | $409 | $184 | 5 |
The table above shows two main things: Secureship can provide you with some incredible savings (the FedEx rates are reduced by an amazing 65%!); and extended delivery times reduce prices. So, unless an item is desperately needed by the recipient, overnight shipping – as for the FedEx International First example – may not be your first choice.
But be advised that carriers’ fees rise for other circumstances and services.
It’s a simple fact that heavier parcels cost more to ship; but little known to many, so does the box size even if the weight of the goods remains the same. And that’s due to billable weight, which is derived by a calculation a carrier makes.
Without going into the details, what it means is if you packaged one kilogram of styrofoam in a box and compared its size to one kilogram of pure gold, the styrofoam would cost more to ship than the lead. So, if there is any way to reduce the container’s size, that could offer up some savings for you.
While parcel pick-up and deliveries on a Saturday may be very convenient for you, there is typically an extra fee for that.
And that also goes for parcel delivery to the recipient’s home, even if that is the business’s address. Options for avoiding this fee is to address the parcel to the carrier’s local office or to the recipient’s non-residential place of work.
Shipping to France is only a bit more complicated than shipping within Canada. That is because the Canada European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) lowered duties between us and France and harmonised commercial transactions.
Regardless of CETA, all parcels entering France, or any foreign nation, require a CI or the parcel will simply be destroyed or returned to sender.
If you have used Secureship as your shipping broker, then our system will seamlessly guide you through its completion.
