Key Points
In over 50 years of business, FedEx has built a very successful worldwide parcel delivery network, which includes frequent links between Canada and Spain. Though you might be thinking: Isn’t FedEx expensive? Well, a Canadian shipping broker called Secureship can help you greatly lower your shipping costs with FedEx and several other carriers. In addition, Secureship’s platform is easy-to-use, so you save a lot of time when we arrange your shipments for you. But you do need to remember that Spain, like Canada, is an independent nation with its own customs rules, duties, and taxes. So, this blog also provides an example and a resource to help abide by Spanish importation regulations.

Fortunately, if you allow Secureship to act as your broker, you could ship with FedEx (and Purolator and UPS) for upwards of half of the retail shipping rate. And Secureship’s platform makes it a simple process so you also save loads of time.
If you haven’t shipped anything recently, you may be very surprised how expensive it has become; and if you ship parcels regularly, you are looking for any way to make it more economical.
The table below shows the current cost of shipping to Madrid from Montreal, and displays results from Secureship’s estimator for a five kilogram parcel bound to Spain on a Monday in July, 2025.
You can see that for a two-day delivery service, you will pay a lot for a modestly sized parcel, but the price drops significantly by switching carriers and modestly extending the delivery time.
And as importantly, note the substantial benefits Secureship can provide you.
While Secureship makes shipping to Spain simpler and cheaper, there is no escaping Spanish customs duties and taxes. Fortunately, as part of the EU, most goods enter Spain duty free.
Regarding taxes, like most other countries, Spain applies a value added tax (VAT) to incoming goods. For instance, when shipping gifts from Canada to Spain, they are duty-free if the parcel’s value is less than €45 (about $70 CAD – July 2025). However, packages above the €45 value will incur VAT at 21%.
And Spanish customs does not allow the following to enter as gifts:
FedEx delivers parcels from Canada to Spain within a day or two if you require that level of service, but it also offers slightly extended delivery times at much reduced rates. However, further savings can be had when Secureship acts as your broker – at times more than 50% off FedEx’s standard rate, and on other carriers like UPS. And in this era of high shipping fees, all savings are welcome. Secureship also helps you arrange shipments in less time and with fewer hassles, and with its online Shipping Guide to Spain, you have an outline of Spain’s customs procedures at your fingertips.
