Frequently Asked Questions About Canpar Rates
How much does Canpar shipping cost?
It depends on four things, which Canpar lists as the actual weight, the dimensional weight, the origin and destination, and the service you choose. Canpar does not publish a current price list for one-off shippers, and it reserves the right to change its rates and charges at any time without prior notice, so a price worked out from an old chart can be wrong. Use Canpar's Rate Calculator, or get an instant quote on Secureship to see Canpar next to every other carrier.
Can I get a Canpar quote without an account?
Yes. Canpar's Rate Calculator is public, and its pay-as-you-go Pick Up on Demand service lets non-account holders ship and pay by credit card. Account customers get a custom rate calculator in MyCanpar that shows their negotiated rates, and Canpar's Terms state that surcharges and factors are subject to the negotiated customer agreement. That is why two businesses can pay different prices for the same box. You can also compare Canpar rates on Secureship without a Canpar account.
Do Canpar rates include the fuel surcharge and taxes?
No. Canpar's published charges are in Canadian dollars before fuel and taxes. The fuel surcharge is a percentage Canpar applies to the sum of the service rate, transportation related surcharges and additional specialized services, and it moves with weekly diesel prices. Check the current percentage on Canpar's fuel surcharge page. A Secureship quote already includes it.
Is there a minimum billable weight on Canpar?
On multi-piece shipments, yes. Canpar applies a minimum billable weight of 6 lb (3 kg) per piece when the average weight per piece is under 6 lb. If no weight is declared at all, Canpar assumes a default weight of 35 lb, and it may reweigh or cube any shipment. Declaring an accurate weight and dimensions is the simplest way to avoid paying for weight you are not shipping. See how dimensional weight works above.
How much is a Canpar shipment covered for?
Without a declared value, Canpar's liability is capped at $100 or $2.00 per pound ($4.41/kg) per shipment, whichever is greater. You can declare a higher value for $4.50 per $100 (or part) above $100, up to $5,000 per package and $20,000 per shipment, and the declared value should reflect your cost of the goods, not the retail price. Personal articles stay at $2.00 per pound with no extra coverage. Canpar also states it does not provide or arrange insurance against consequential loss. The full terms are in Canpar's Terms of Service.
