Frequently Asked Questions About Loomis Services
What's the difference between Loomis Express 12:00 and 18:00?
The delivery time and the guarantee. Both deliver the next possible business day between major metropolitan cities, but Express 12:00 arrives by noon and is guaranteed: if it is late, Loomis refunds or credits the transportation charges on written request. Express 18:00 arrives by the end of the day and has no money-back guarantee. Loomis describes 18:00 as its "popular end of day express service", so it suits shipments that need to arrive next day without a set time. Does Loomis ship to the USA?
Yes, with three services. Loomis Express 10:30 delivers to major U.S. cities by 10:30 am the next possible business day, with a money-back guarantee. Loomis Economy Select is the lower-cost option, from major points in Canada to major U.S. cities in 1 to 6 business days. Loomis Express Worldwide also covers the U.S. All U.S. shipments must be sent prepaid, and every one goes through customs: our Loomis Customs & Duties guide explains who pays duties and what paperwork you need.
Does Loomis offer cash on delivery?
Not in cash. Loomis's Return Cheque service is its version of COD: the driver collects a cheque, post-dated cheque, certified cheque, bank draft or money order made out to you before releasing the package, and Loomis returns it to you from anywhere in Canada. You can collect up to three post-dated cheques per shipment. Loomis states its drivers will not accept cash. The fee is in our Loomis Surcharges guide.
What dangerous goods can you ship with Loomis?
Some, by ground only. Loomis accepts these classes:
- Division 1.4C, 1.4G and 1.4S explosives
- Class 2 gases, except Division 2.3 toxic gases
- Class 3 flammable liquids
- Class 4 flammable solids, except Division 4.3
- Class 5 oxidizers and organic peroxides
- Class 8 corrosives
- Class 9 miscellaneous products, with Loomis's prior consent
Loomis does not send any dangerous goods by air, you cannot pack them in Loomis-branded envelopes, flyers or boxes, and the service is not available to extended area or agent locations. A Loomis dangerous goods specialist reviews each shipment before it is accepted. A surcharge applies, listed in our Loomis Surcharges guide, and the full rules are in Loomis's Terms and Conditions.
How do I pack a box for Loomis?
Use a sturdy corrugated box, and Loomis recommends avoiding old ones. Wrap each item separately and leave 2 inches of cushioning between your items and the sides of the box. Seal all flaps and seams with tape at least 2 inches wide, using the H method: one strip along the centre seam, then one across each end, so the tape forms an H. If you are sending more than one box, number them, for example "Box 1 of 2" and "Box 2 of 2", and keep straps and tape off the label. Good packing also protects you if something goes wrong, because Loomis will not cover loss or damage from a defective box or a poor seal. Loomis's packaging guide has more tips.
Does Loomis connect to shipping software?
Yes. Loomis WebShip handles online shipping, labels, tracking and supplies, and Loomis states it connects directly with popular online marketplaces so orders can be imported automatically. Loomis also offers EDI, a dedicated Laser shipping system for qualifying customers, and APIs for locating drop-off points, booking pickups, rating, shipping, time in transit and tracking. If you would rather compare Loomis with other carriers in one place, Secureship does that without a Loomis account.
