Frequently Asked Questions About Loomis Rates
How much does Loomis shipping cost?
It depends on the billable weight of your package, the zone it travels to from your origin postal code, and the service you choose, plus any fees and the fuel surcharge. Loomis publishes its rates in its 2026 rate guide, but it reserves the right to change its rates and charges at any time without prior notice, so a price worked out from a chart can be out of date. Can I get a Loomis quote without an account?
Yes. Loomis lets you ship as a guest and pay by credit card. Account customers get a custom rate calculator in MyLoomis that uses their own rates, and Loomis's Terms state that surcharges and factors are subject to a negotiated customer agreement, which is why two businesses can pay different prices for the same box. You can also compare Loomis rates on Secureship without a Loomis account.
Do Loomis rates include the fuel surcharge and taxes?
No. Loomis's published charges are in Canadian dollars before fuel and taxes. The fuel surcharge is a percentage Loomis applies to the service rate, transportation related surcharges and additional specialized services, and most of its extra fees are subject to it too. It moves with weekly diesel prices, so check the current percentage on Loomis's fuel surcharge page. A Secureship quote already includes it.
Is there a minimum billable weight on Loomis?
On multi-piece shipments, yes. Loomis applies a minimum billable weight of 6 lb (3 kg) per piece when the average weight per piece is under 6 lb. If no weight is declared at all, Loomis assumes a default weight of 15 lb, and it may reweigh or cube any shipment. Declaring an accurate weight and dimensions is the simplest way to avoid paying for weight you are not shipping. See how dimensional weight works above.
How much is a Loomis shipment covered for?
Without a declared value, Loomis's liability is $2.00 per pound ($4.41/kg) of the piece lost or damaged, up to a maximum of $100 per shipment, whichever is less, so a 5 lb parcel is covered for $10. You can declare a higher value through Loomis's Shipment Value Protection for $4.50 per $100 of declared value within Canada, up to $5,000, and any value over $2,500 needs a Special Agreement Number from Loomis before you ship. Items such as glass, liquids, ceramics and perishables travel at the shipper's risk, and Loomis states it does not provide or arrange insurance against consequential loss. The full terms are in Loomis's Terms and Conditions.
