Loomis vs Canpar, Frequently Asked Questions
Are Loomis and Canpar the same company?
No, but they have the same owner. Loomis Express was bought by TFI International in 2011, and Canpar Express has been part of TFI International since 2002. They are still separate carriers, each with its own services, rate guide, terms and customer service, which is why their delivery attempts, liability and several fees differ.
Is Loomis cheaper than Canpar?
On published fees, they are close. Many match exactly, including Saturday delivery, signatures, dangerous goods and the oversize charges. Where they differ, Canpar is lower on residential delivery, address correction, COD and third-party billing, and Loomis is lower on booking a pickup. Because Canpar charges address correction and redirects per piece, a multi-box shipment can tip the other way. The base rate for your exact route decides it, so compare both live.
Which covers more on a lost parcel, Loomis or Canpar?
Canpar, on anything under 50 lb sent without a declared value. Canpar covers the greater of $100 or $2.00 per pound, while Loomis covers $2.00 per pound up to $100, whichever is less. An undeclared 5 lb parcel is covered for $100 with Canpar and $10 with Loomis; at 50 lb both reach $100. Both charge $4.50 per $100 to declare more, but Canpar only charges on value above $100.
Which is faster, Loomis Ground or Canpar Ground?
On paper, Canpar: it lists Ground at 1 to 4 business days, based on major city centres, against 1 to 6 for Loomis Ground across Canada. Neither guarantees its Ground service, and both say transit depends on the route, so check the lane you actually ship. For a set time, Loomis Express 9:00 and 12:00 are separate guaranteed services. See our Loomis Delivery Times guide.
Can I compare Loomis and Canpar rates in one place?
Yes. Secureship shows live Loomis and Canpar rates side by side for your exact shipment, along with every other major carrier, with no separate accounts or contracts.
